The tax environment in China is one of the most complex and challenging tax environments around the globe. Frequent regulatory changes, inconsistent interpretation and practices, an aggressive tax audit environment, and lack of effective appeal in China have led to inevitable uncertainties and challenges for taxpayers. Though Chinese tax authorities are striving to offer a better tax environment over recent years, taxpayers in general still find uncertainties and challenges.

To cover this topic, Mr. Liang Gong, Partner at PwC, will give a brief overview of the current China tax environment with a major focus on the tax audit area. Mr. Gong will also share a couple of successful tax audit defense cases he has participated in, followed by a Q&A session.

About the Speaker

Mr. Gong Liang is a leading partner of the tax controversy practice in central PwC China. He has over 12 years’ experience in providing China tax and business advisory services for both overseas client and domestic enterprises including manufacturing, FMCG, real estate, etc. Before joining PwC, Mr. Gong had 7 years of working experience in Qingdao State Tax Bureau and gained first-hand experience in tax audit and tax administration issues. Over the years, Mr. Gong gained rich experience in tax controversy area and achieved successful outcomes from tax audit defense and tax appeal cases. Mr. Gong achieved the MBA degree from the University of Oxford, and a Master Degree in Economics from Renmin University.
