From Banking to the Battlefields

Guest Speaker: Mr. YIP Wai Cheong (Jason) Regional Head of Market, Government Affairs and Donor Relations division, ICRC

While Jason might have lost count of how many armed group members he had spoken with in the battlefields, he could still spell out the “very special” address of a letter he was asked to hand-deliver to a mother in Myanmar. In this April’s luncheon, Jason will share his personal experience from working in Goldman Sachs Hong Kong to negotiating with armed groups in Palestine, Afghanistan and Myanmar as an ICRC Delegate. He will also introduce the world’s first “Humanitarian Impact Bond” and discuss how the private sector could get involved in humanitarian efforts.

About the guest speaker

Jason Yip is the Regional Head of Unit at the Government Affairs & Donor Relations division of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Born and raised in Hong Kong, Jason worked in the headquarters of the ICRC in Geneva to mobilize dialogues with the member states of the Geneva Convention. In addition, he stationed in Palestine, Afghanistan and Myanmar, where he was responsible for developing and implementing ICRC’s humanitarian initiatives in the battlefields. He has extensive experience performing security analysis and building dialogues with non-state military groups. He is also experienced in emergence relief, including working for Sichuan’s earthquake in 2008 and the migrant crisis in Andaman Sea in 2015.
