The Sino-Swiss Zhenjiang Ecological Industrial Park(SSZEIP) was launched in July 2012. It is based on a bilateral initiative between the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China(Mofcom) and the state Secretariat for Economic Affairs of the Swiss Confederation(SECO) to promote bilateral cooperation and establish an innovative eco-friendly, low-carbon, intelligent park, thus to establish an international colloborative innovation platform.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by the Chinese Trade Minister Chen Deming and Federal Councillor Johann Schneider-Ammann at the Sino-Swiss Economic Forum organised by SwissCham Beijing on July 9, 2012. On July 10, a Framework Agreement was concluded between the Zhenjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone (ZETDZ) and Cleantech Switzerland.
2. Location
Zhenjiang is located in the south western part of Jiangsu province and is home to around three million people. Enjoying an excellent geographical and strategic position at the intersection of the Yangze River and the Beijing Hanzhou Grand Canal, the city’s harbour is the third-largest on the river. High-speed rail services (e.g. Zhenjiang to Shanghai in just 50 minutes) provide excellent links to three major business centers in the region: Nanjing, Shanghai, the Yangze River Delta business area.
The Industry Park with a newly built business jet airport is located in DaGang, the eastern part of the city and within Zhenjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone (ZETDZ), which covers a total of around 220 km2.
The SSZEIP is set to house a range of specialist institutes and accommodate a wide variety of laboratories, R&D centers, facilities for the testing and certification of raw materials and management centers for project and technology development. On totally 20 km2 land is available for the development of production facilities across a broad range of industries.
The first phase of the development will see the establishment of the Sino-Swiss Innovation Center, providing the incubation space for SSZEIP with 220,000 m2 gross floor area available to house SSZEIP’s management and administration and also offering offices, workshops, R&D facilities and exhibition space for innovative Cleantech and high-tech products.
SSZEIP will be developed and built with Swiss technology, wherever the business case is proven, and become a Chinese showcase of sustainable economic development. There is a host of business opportunities (from real estate to energy, transport water supply, waste-water management and recycling etc.) which Swiss businesses will be able to assess and evaluate with the Chinese authorities. SSZEIP will also act as a center for small and medium-sized companies from Switzerland and elsewhere.
