The Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) is a non-profit Swiss organization, originally founded in Zürich in 1980 by Dr. Uli Sigg – former Ambassador of Switzerland to China – and a group of business professionals. Its two main goals are to promote commercial relations between Switzerland and China and strengthen the political and economical bonds between the two governments and institutions. Given the exponential economical growth of China following Deng Xiaoping’s reforms, SCCC, in 1995, opened two new branches in Geneva and Lugano.
In 1996, SwissCham China, a non-profit organization, was founded with the opening of its first office in Beijing, which gave the Chamber a new dimension and scope for cooperation, business activities, strengthening the Sino-Swiss bonds and provide a platform for local Swiss and Chinese business people inside China. In 1997, a liaison office was established in Shanghai, as well as another liaison office opened 2006 in Guangzhou and 2019 in Chongqing.
In 2001, SwissCham China became a completely independent entity from SCCC and today – it is the only Swiss Chamber of Commerce to be officially registered with the Chinese government. All three liaison offices work in close collaboration to serve best the interests of the Swiss business community in China.
