Chinese President Appoints Four New Ambassadors

Chinese President Xi Jinping has appointed four new ambassadors to foreign countries, according to a statement issued by the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) on Tuesday. Xi made the appointments in line with decisions made by the Standing Committee of the NPC, China’s top legislature. Xu Jinghu was appointed Ambassador to Switzerland, replacing Wu Ken. Xu Jinghu was born in 1954 in Jiangsu province. In 1979 she joined the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Department for Africa. Her first overseas assignment was as Third Secretary to the Chinese embassy in Gabon between 1985 and 1990. She was appointed Ambassador to Morocco in 2009. Last week on June 27, the new ambassador presented her letter of accreditation to the Federal Council, in the presence of Federal Counselor Mr. Ueli Maurer and Federal Chancellor Ms. Corina Casanova.
