China, Switzerland Ink FTA

by swisscham in Business

China and Switzerland have officially sealed their free trade agreement over the weekend. Switzerland is the second European country after Iceland to ink such a deal with China, and the first one on continental Europe to do so. This opens the doors for Swiss chocolates, watches, textiles and machinery to double in their trade volume into China. Businesses from both sides are excited. “We would be happy at the Chamber to have more members who contribute to the Sino-Swiss relations. But I think it’s again too early to say. The FTA will only enter into action next year, hopefully by 2014 it will be ratified by the government. I think there will be an improvement of trade volumes on both sides.” Peter Troesch, President of Swiss-Chinese Business Chamber of Commerce said. “For sure, the dairy industry in Switzerland can benefit if the dairy industry is capable to deliver high quality products at competitive prices.” Daniel Lutz, Managing Director of Nestle, Greater China Region said.
