After a first meeting with each of our five working groups, we will continue to deepen our knowledge in a second round of discussion. This second round will host four seminars each covering transversal issues that came out of our first exchanges:

  • Customer oriented certification (Thu, Oct 15)
  • Closing the Circle (Tue, Oct 20)
  • Data-driven Decision Making (Mon, Oct 26)
  • The future of gatherings (Tue, Oct 27)

The Future of Gatherings

While companies gradually understood the negative impact of long-distance travel on the environment and began to think about reducing costly non-essential travel, the COVID-19 pandemic is now taking these considerations to the next level, as international movement becomes nearly impossible.

Rapid changing and heterogeneous measures to contain the virus keep feeding the growing uncertainty. They are now forcing professional from the hospitality industry to rethink in depth their work and to conceptualize innovative agile actions to enable interconnected economies to keep exchanging with each other. Moreover, these actors could even be confronted in the long term to new social norms, as long months of quarantine have changed social interactions, others being a potential source of infection. The year 2020 could be the pivotal year for international gatherings.

In this this discussion, companies will try to assess what will be the future of international gatherings ? Will enterprise take the present opportunity to move towards more environmental friendly habits ? Will hybrid events (online & offline) be the norm or added-value will be definitely loss ? Will physical infrastructure change ?

At stake will be the issues such as how to engage people in a digital realm, how to allow cultural interactions to take place through a screen and how to produce a shared experience.
