SwissCham is delighted to invite you to join our next online session of our SSEF-Working Groups on the topic of Customer Oriented Certification on Thursday October 15, 2020.

After a first meeting with each of our five working groups, we will continue to deepen our knowledge in a second round of discussion. This second round will host four seminars each covering transversal issues that came out of our first exchanges:

  • Customer oriented certification (Thu, Oct 15)
  • Closing the Circle (Tue, Oct 20)
  • Data-driven Decision Making (Mon, Oct 26)
  • The future of gatherings (Tue, Oct 27)

Customer oriented certification

Guarantees and transparency regarding origin, content and production processes are increasingly requested by informed consumers. Companies face now real pressure to demonstrate the extent to which their goods and services are in line with social and environmental concerns.

Regulations, certifications, standards and labels backed by public or private institutions help firms complying with specific requirements to be recognized as such in the market. Today, in an increasingly complex international agri-food environment, B2B or B2C relation could eventually rely on more tailored transparency frameworks, specific to a network of actors.

Executives engaged in this discussion will explore how companies will in the future certify any type of variables requested by customers. Will traditional frameworks expand even further or will new solutions that directly address the concerns of a specific group take the lead? While some experts call for improved exchanges between public and private counterparts within existing frameworks, others advocate for increased use of information and communication technologies (such as Blockchain), enabling accurate and real-time verification mechanism.

At stake will not only be the sale of products that comply with certifications, but above all the creation of appropriate incentives to develop, produce and market sustainable goods and services.
