Closing the Circle
Population growth and rapid rising standards of living are accelerating the demand for natural resources and materials derived from them. The current depletion of the planet’s natural stock is having unprecedented harmful environmental, social and economic consequences.
For corporation, moving away from the traditional linear model of extensive extracting, manufacturing, owning and disposing of products will be crucial to remain competitive and durable. More circular business models are seen as a essential way to address resource inefficiency and promote the development of sustainable materials, both central to the G7 and G20 agendas and at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Coming from different sectors, companies gathered in this discussion will exchange on how to embrace this evolution. Key topics such as improved productivity, greener production modes, shift towards services and sharing models and even longer and slower product life scheme will be extensively explored. Stakeholders will also provide insights on how breakthrough innovation in sustainable materials and the creation of by-products along the entire value chain allow firm to shift towards more sustainable models.
At the end of the circle, businesses will try to identify what it is needed to engage executives and policy makers to fully adopt repair, remanufacture, recycle and replace paradigms. Single items use, such as plastic, will be a key subject of this discussion.
