2019 has been an eventful year, marked by twists and turns in geopolitics and financial markets. Uncertainties loom with the US-China trade talks reaching new intensity levels, the Brexit deal or no-deal dragging on, and a black swan-event hitting Hong Kong. What are the likely scenarios for implications on the world economy and financial markets, and where should investors bet their money on?
The Swiss Chamber is delighted to have Lynn Raebsamen, CFA, Founder Swiss Vanquest AG, to host a panel discussion of distinguished speakers of investment experts including Hartmut Issel, APAC Head Equity at the Chief Investment Office WM at UBS; Jack Siu, Director & Senior Investment Strategist for Asia Pacific at Credit Suisse; Jean-Louis Nakamura, CEO HK & CIO Asia Pacific at Lombard Odier, to share their insights of what lies ahead as we enter the new decade.
Lynn Raebsamen is a financial professional who’s worked for leading investment banks and reputable financial institutions across Europe and Asia, including Credit Suisse, UBS, Hana Bank and Bloomberg. As the founder of Swiss Vanquest and a board member of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce, she helps businesses to connect to the corporate community and network in Hong Kong.
Hartmut gained initial work experience at Deutsche Bank in Berlin, Union Bank of Switzerland in Zurich and Price Waterhouse in New York, before joining UBS in 1998, working in Basle, London, and Zurich. He started his career at UBS as a buy-side analyst for Germany (including responsibility for the country equity portfolio) and Scandinavian countries and in charge of the global IT sector from 1999 to 2005. In 2005-2006, Mr. Issel was sent to New York to build up and lead the North American research unit of WMR, focusing on stock markets but also holding general financial market outlook presentations for clients. Starting 2007 he was heading WMR India at the India Service Centre in Hyderabad. In July 2009 he joined in Singapore as WMR head for the location and deputy head of APAC, also covering India and Indonesia. In addition, he holds presentations on Asia-wide and global topics for investors in one to ones, at events as well as conferences.
Jack responsible for developing regional discretionary and advisory investment strategies across asset classes and within asset classes for private and institutional clients in Asia Pacific. Prior to joining Credit Suisse in September 2015, Jack was Portfolio Manager for Generali Investments Asia Limited’s Asian Bond Fund. Before that, he served as the Asia Investment Strategist at Citi Private Bank and was an advisor to their Asia Pacific Investment Committee.
Jack brings 13 years of investment management experience in Asia fixed income, asset allocation and global currency markets. Prior to Citi, Jack started and spent five years in Standard Chartered Wholesale Bank London where he structured Asia / Emerging Markets fixed income portfolios at the Capital Market Solutions team and rotated across FX Options Trading, Market Risk and Liquidity Risk departments as an International Management Trainee.
Based in Hong Kong since 2014, Jean-Louis oversights DPM as well as advisory portfolios for the wealth management activities of Lombard Odier in Asia and is responsible for the Asia credit, Asian equities and Risk-based multi-assets strategies on behalf of the asset management arm of Lombard Odier group. He was previously deputy global CIO of Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) in Geneva, a company he joined in 2008. Prior to joining Lombard Odier, Jean-Louis was the CIO of the French Pensions Reserve Fund (FRR), then CEO of the French Civil Service Pension Fund (ERAFP). He started his career as an economist at the French Ministry of Finance, in 1995, were he was successively in charge of Monetary union preparation, Banking supervision and International economic forecasts. He also serves two years in Brussels as a French representative for EMU related questions in 1999-2001.
